The blueprint shows that the main body of the Klankstraal Kota is octagonal. For participants in group activities, the building’s shape feels like an enveloping, circular space where everyone is equal. The Kota has an additional extension, but in such a way that the underlying octagonal structure remains intact.

An octagon has special significance in many cultures. Spiritually, an octagon symbolizes the transition from the earthly plane (square) to the heavenly plane (circle), or the “squaring of the circle.” Within Christianity, the octagon represents rebirth and resurrection. In Feng Shui, it’s a shape for protection and good fortune, while its architectural use in temples and churches symbolizes cosmic balance and new beginnings. Much of this symbolism reflects the diverse experiences participants in a sound bath can have. Fun fact: the 11th-century St. Nicholas Chapel across the river also has the same octagonal base: the columns inside are arranged in an octagon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
